Dr. Osama Ibrahim, President of Alexandria University and distinguished professor of Ophthalmology. He is the 23rd president of AU and the first elected president (December 2011- October 2014). He finished his high school in 1974 as the top student over Egypt and completed his Medical Degree in the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt in 1980 also as the top student. He completed a Fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, USA between 1988 and 1990. He finished his Doctorate Degree in 1990 and joined the staff till he was promoted to a full Clinical Professor. He was the chief of Corneal and Refractive Surgery in El-Maghraby Eye Hospital and Centers in Saudi Arabia 1991 - 1996. During his 30 years of clinical practice and research development, he supervised and discussed more than 70 Master and Doctorate thesis both in Alexandria University and almost all other universities in Egypt. He established a unique clinical training program in the field of Corneal and Refractive surgery both in the University and private practice. Dr Ibrahim has promoted Refractive Surgery all over the Arab world and Middle East and helped to establish many centers by educating, training and supervising many of his colleagues in the Arab world and operating in many countries. He is an active member of almost all prestigious Ophthalmic Societies in the world. He is in the editorial board of Journal of cataract and refractive surgery (JCRS) and Middle East African Journal of Ophthalmology (MEAJO). Dr Ibrahim has been actively involved as a principal investigator and consultant for many clinical studies and research projects for most Excimer laser companies, Corneal topography, microkeratomes and Femto second Laser systems and helped to develop many software programs and algorythms for their systems. He regularly attends almost all Ophthalmic meetings where he has presented hundreds of novel papers and courses and chaired and moderated many sessions. Professor Osama is the recipient of the MEACO Distinction Award for 2012, by the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO), and the Achievement Award for 2012, by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and Casebeer Award for 2013 , by the International Society of Refractive Surgery ( ISRS).
